EDNA òòò½ÊÓƵ” Jamie Dixon has coached against Edna six times, four at Industrial and twice at Blanco.
He won twice at Industrial, but came up on the short end at Blanco, including a 55-13 setback in the 2023 regional semifinals.
Dixon wonòòò½ÊÓƵ™t have to coach against the Cowboys after being named Ednaòòò½ÊÓƵ™s athletic director and head football coach.
Dixonòòò½ÊÓƵ™s hiring was approved at a special meeting of the Edna board of trustees on Thursday morning.
òòò½ÊÓƵœWe have family in the area and the tradition of the program,òòò½ÊÓƵ Dixon said after the boardòòò½ÊÓƵ™s approval. òòò½ÊÓƵœPersonally, family, and being a coach, itòòò½ÊÓƵ™s the tradition of Edna athletics.òòò½ÊÓƵ
Dixon will replace Jimmie Mitchell, who asked to be reassigned after his contract wasnòòò½ÊÓƵ™t extended.
Mitchell was at Edna for five seasons and had an overall record of 54-15 and a district record of 29-2.
He led the Cowboys to three straight Class 3A, Division I semifinal appearances, including last season when they finished with a 14-1 record.
òòò½ÊÓƵœIòòò½ÊÓƵ™m familiar with the kids playing them at Industrial and twice when I was at Blanco,òòò½ÊÓƵ Dixon said. òòò½ÊÓƵœIòòò½ÊÓƵ™m familiar with them and you face them a lot, you see what they can do and seeing the success they had, you want to be a part of it.òòò½ÊÓƵ
Dixon doesnòòò½ÊÓƵ™t foresee making many dramatic changes schematically.
òòò½ÊÓƵœActually, our offensive and defensive schemes are pretty similar,òòò½ÊÓƵ he said. òòò½ÊÓƵœThe Mitchells and I have kind of coached with the same people. Some of the schemes are pretty similar. Some of the terminology may be a little bit different. You have athletes here at Edna and youòòò½ÊÓƵ™ve got to get the ball to multiple people and do different things.òòò½ÊÓƵ
Dixon has been at Blanco for three seasons and had a record of 26-12 that included three playoff appearances.
Dixon was at Industrial for four seasons before leaving for Blanco and had an overall record of 38-13.
Industrial had gone 0-10 the season before Dixon became coach. Dixon led the Cobras to four consecutive playoff appearances, including a trip to the regional final in 2021.
Dixon was an assistant at Rockport-Fulton, Greenville, Gonzales, Ingleside, La Marque and Giddings before going to Industrial.
òòò½ÊÓƵœMy first priority is getting the kids and giving them structure back and getting them ready to go and meeting with them and seeing what we can do,òòò½ÊÓƵ Dixon said. òòò½ÊÓƵœGetting the offensive and defensive schemes ready to go. Second is I have to get a coaching staff together.òòò½ÊÓƵ
