SHREVEPORT, La. -- State highway construction crews began work today on expansion of the exit lane off Interstate 49 onto the Southern Loop.òòò½ÊÓƵ

Those who use that exit daily know how congested it can get during peak times. Often, the line of motorists exiting I-49 onto the Loop backs up onto the interstate.òòò½ÊÓƵ

The state Department of Transportation and Development will spend $1.5 million to construct a second exit lane adjacent to the existing one.òòò½ÊÓƵ

The existing ramp will remain open during construction, though motorists should be aware of crews and equipment on site and drive with caution through the area.

The entire project is anticipated to be complete in the fall,òòò½ÊÓƵwith progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.
