Missoula roads to get much-needed resurfacing

A project to resurface several busy roads in Missoula is in the works.

MISSOULA, Mont. òòò½ÊÓƵ“ A project to resurface several busy roads in Missoula is in the works.

This initiative aims to address pavement upgrades on Reserve Street south of Brooks, Beckwith Avenue from Higgins to Arthur Avenue, and East Broadway Street east of Van Buren Street. The other roads that will receive upgrades are South 3rd Street from Reserve Street to Russell Street, Toole Avenue, Spruce Street, and Madison Street between West Broadway Street and East Broadway Street.

NonStop Local spoke with engineers involved in the project to discuss the plans and community engagement. One engineer emphasized the importance of community input, stating, òòò½ÊÓƵœAny concerns or anything that, you know that they feel that way you can take into consideration with this project for construction and for design part of this, it is going to be just some chips here over the existing asphalt, as well as some crack sealing and then re-striping of all the lines.òòò½ÊÓƵ

Additionally, the engineer urged residents to be cautious during construction. òòò½ÊÓƵœOnce construction starts, definitely keep an eye out for the guys working on the road. Guys and gals working on the road. Put your cell phones down and pay attention and mind all speed zones and all traffic control as you're driving through the construction sites,òòò½ÊÓƵ he said.

Funding for the project is part of a pavement preservation initiative, where a portion of funds is allocated for prolonging and preserving pavement to extend service lines.

According to the Montana Department of Transportation, construction is tentatively planned for 2026, depending on the design completion and fund availability. No new right of way or utility relocations will be required.
