Victoriaòòò½ÊÓƵ™s Mid-Coast Family Services is hoping to break ground on their new half a million Resource Day Center for the homeless population in the coming week.
òòò½ÊÓƵœOur goal is palliative in nature and we know living on the street is hard. We hope this becomes a multifunctional space that is used every day,òòò½ÊÓƵ Ginny Stafford, Mid-Coastòòò½ÊÓƵ™s chief executive said.
The Resource Center will primarily serve the homeless population in Victoria as a place where they can come in for the day, use the amenities and help get connected with resources at Mid-Coast or in the community.
òòò½ÊÓƵœWe knew there was a need for this in the community,òòò½ÊÓƵ Stafford said.
Stafford said that center will serve more than one purpose and will become a multi-purpose and functional space for meetings and for community outreach programs such as parenting classes.
Inside the center will feature amenities such as handicap accessible shower stalls, lockers and mailboxes.
òòò½ÊÓƵœWhether it is hot outside or itòòò½ÊÓƵ™s cold, nothing beats a nice hot shower,òòò½ÊÓƵ Stafford said.
While at the center people can meet with case managers to see what help they can receive from resources in the community.
òòò½ÊÓƵœOur ultimate goal is for everyone to find permanent housing. We know realistically not everyone is going to get a house but we can at least help make life a little easier for everyone,òòò½ÊÓƵ Stafford said.
The Resource Center is being funded by MG and Lillie A. Johnson Foundation, Albert and Mary Dick Charitable Trust and a City of Victoria Community Development grant.
