Resident moving out of Southern Oaks apartments

SHREVEPORT, La. òòò½ÊÓƵ” The water has been fully restored since Monday at the Southern Oaks Apartments after its owners fell behind on the bill.

City officials confirmed today the owners paid off their full water bill on Monday. The total was more than $200,000.

Residents at Southern Oaks say theyòòò½ÊÓƵ™re happy to have running water again òòò½ÊÓƵ” but thereòòò½ÊÓƵ™s a catch. Itòòò½ÊÓƵ™s ice cold, forcing them to boil it just to bathe or wash dishes.

Some tenants have had enough and are moving out, saying they canòòò½ÊÓƵ™t trust the owners to keep the water on.

According to tenants, maintenance workers have been seen entering vacant apartments late at night, hauling out appliancesòòò½ÊÓƵ òòò½ÊÓƵ” everything from refrigerators and stoves to washers and dryers.

And while the trash here continues to pile up, just a few miles away at Village Square Apartments òòò½ÊÓƵ” owned by the same companyòòò½ÊÓƵ òòò½ÊÓƵ”garbage has finally been picked up.

Now, residents at both complexes are left wondering: should they stay and hope for improvements, or move on before the next crisis.
