Members of the Lac Courte Oreilles reported slashed tires on their truck while they spearfished the evening of April 7 at the Anchor Bay boat landing in Northwoods Beach.
The incident is being investigated by tribal police.
A police report has not been produced as of press time.
Jennifer Cadotte, a public relations specialist for the tribe, said the Tribal Governing Board is concerned about the acts targeting tribal members who are legally exercising their tribal rights.
ƵWe condemn these acts of racism and property damage in the strongest terms,Ƶ she said in a press release. ƵWe will pursue all legal avenues and advocate for the maximum penalties for those responsible.
ƵWe call on all community members to reject violence. Instead, record and report any incidents to the property authorities. Justice must be pursued through lawful and peaceful means.Ƶ
Cadotte went on to note the tribe contributes significantly through its fish hatchery.
The facility produced more than 104,000 walleye and 105,000 small fingerlings that were then released into local waterways between 2021 and 2024.
