Our Lady of Victory Catholic School (OLV) will hold their annual Christmas program, òòò½ÊÓƵœCamel Lot: Donòòò½ÊÓƵ™t Miss the Manger,òòò½ÊÓƵ on Dec. 18, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at the VISD Fine Arts Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The program is centered around recognizing the important message of Christmas despite the increasingly busy and distracting holiday season.

The program will feature OLV eighth graders in acting roles in the play, below eighth to third graders in a choir singing the songs of the play and kindergarten through second grade students singing a special song. The play is set in the time of Bethlehem and is centered around a camel lot where camels are sold.

òòò½ÊÓƵœThe whole school is a part of it, and the whole school wants to present to the community the importance of Christmas,òòò½ÊÓƵ Nancy Ives, OLV Christmas program director, said. òòò½ÊÓƵœThe birth of our Savior is the important part of Christmas, not just the busyness of Christmas. It takes the whole school to put the program together.òòò½ÊÓƵ

Ives and OLV music teacher Teresa Vincent select the Christmas program play each year. Vincent picks a few songs she feels will work best for the school musically and Ives assesses them from an acting standpoint. The two then select the piece they feel fits best with the current group of students.

The OLV Christmas program features a lengthy process of auditions, rehearsal and performance. Tryouts for eighth grade speaking roles are held in August and rehearsals begin in September. All eighth graders have a role in the production but may not all have heavy speaking roles.

Children in the kindergarten to second grade choir begin rehearsing in October. Their performance tends to feature hand motions and elements of sign language. For the 2024 performance, The first grade choir will sing The Little Drummer Boy and wear headbands as a symbol of the song.

OLV kindergarteners will be dressed in all white as they portray angels. Traditionally, audience membersòòò½ÊÓƵ™ hearts melt when the schoolòòò½ÊÓƵ™s kindergarteners enter each year with their angel wings, stealing the show, Ives said.

òòò½ÊÓƵœAll of the grade levels are very enthusiastic,òòò½ÊÓƵ Ives said. òòò½ÊÓƵœThe choir digs deep and gets the enthusiasm for tomorrow night to project their voices and sing their best. Community members should come to the Christmas program to see the love of our Savior shine through all of our children here at OLV.òòò½ÊÓƵ
