BONHAM, Texas (KTEN) òòò½ÊÓƵ” A man and a woman died Thursday in a crash on State Highway 121 in Bonham.

According to Fannin òòò½ÊÓƵ Emergency Management Coordinator, Troy Hudson, this brings the total number of fatalities on that road to five for this year.

"It was north of 82 òòò½ÊÓƵ“ So, it was on 121, but it was north of the areas where we have been seeing a lot of the accidents," he explained.

Police Capt. Terry Edington said a person driving a Nissan was headed east on FM 898 when they ran a stop sign and got hit by a Jeep that was southbound on 121.

The impact sent the Jeep airborne; it struck the cab of an 18-wheeler on the highway.

The identities of those who were killed have been confirmed as Doris Ball Kirk, who was driving the Jeep, and Juan Carlos Montoya, who was behind the wheel of the big rig.

"There's a lot of factors going into our traffic accidents, and a great number of that is the driver inattentiveness," Hudson added. "What are they doing? What's causing them to veer into another lane? What's causing them not to see another vehicle that is moving over, or their failure to stop at a stop sign?"

In addition to the two fatalities, two others were injured in the crash. The conditions and identities of the two individuals who were hospitalized has not been released.

The incident is under investigation by Bonham police and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
